MKL: Beatmaking for Street Dancing

Go behind the scenes as beatmaker MKL shows how he produced the score for the the biggest international hip hop and street dancing contest in France.

Since 2002, the annual Juste Debout street dancing competition has been staged in Paris. Featuring the best dancers and choreographers from across the world, the event is the biggest of its kind in France, and has featured the likes of Les Twins to Salah, Marvin Gofin, Yaman Okur or Marion Motin, along with the finest musicians to provide the competition’s score.

Beatmaker, and all-round producer MKL was tasked to soundtrack Juste Debout for the second year in a row. His role has been to embrace the energy through music, and to ensure the right audio beats are there for the right moment. With over 15 years of experience producing music for singers and rappers alike, MKL now finds himself in a totally new position. Creating music for dance is a particular exercise; a careful blend of projection, creativity and anticipation.

From his home studio to the Accor Hôtels Arena in Paris, MKL takes Native Instruments behind the scenes of his musical creation for Juste Debout.
