The Stereotypes, hit by hit

Get to know the super-producers behind our latest Expansion
with a quick run-down of their biggest tracks.

“Oftentimes the hottest sounds blare from the background,” begins The Stereotypes’ online bio. And this four-part production powerhouse is a living embodiment of that sentiment: Even if you don’t know the name, you’ve certainly heard The Stereotypes’ sound. Their own brand of funk and R&B–infused pop, refined over a decade of hit-making, serves both as an accompaniment to the rise of some of today’s biggest artists, and as an inspiration to countless other contemporary producers.

CARDI B & BRUNO MARS – PLEASE ME

In 2019, duets don’t come much bigger than Cardi B and Bruno Mars. Their combined star-power, paired with The Stereotypes’ retro-meets-modern production carried this smooth jam all the way to number one on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Chart back in March.

BRUNO MARS – THAT’S WHAT I LIKE

No Cardi B, no problem. Back in 2016, The Stereotypes co-produced a Bruno Mars track so hot that it spent five months in the top five, scored three Grammys, and got itself banned in Indonesia.

DESTINY ROGERS – NORTH$IDE

It’s not all about established artists – 19-year-old Destiny Rogers is a California-based singer/rapper already drawing comparisons to Rihanna and SZA. If you haven’t come across her music yet, the Stereotypes-produced “North$ide”, which juxtaposes floor-rattling 808s with dreamy harp samples, is a great place to start.

IGGY AZALEA – MO BOUNCE

Iggy Azalea’s Digital Distortion was shelved in 2017 (now there’s a concept album we’d love to hear), but its Stereotypes/Far East Movement–produced second single “Mo-Bounce” made it out and made a splash nonetheless – just check that view count.

RED VELVET – BAD BOY

Here, the crew lend some all-American hip hop and R&B flavor to one of South Korea’s biggest girl groups. At time of writing, this track is probably still the only Stereotypes production ever performed live in front of Kim Jong-un.

GUAPDAD 4000 – GUCCI PAJAMAS (FEAT. CHANCE THE RAPPER & CHARLIE WILSON)

A distinctly 2019 collaboration with a distinctly retro-flavor, this is classic Stereotypes. “Gucci Pajamas” won’t be the last we hear of Guapdad 4000 – it features on the imminent Dior Deposits album alongside collabs with 6lack, Tory Lanez, G-Eazy, and more.

G-EAZY – TOO LOUD (FEAT. NEF THE PHARAOH)

On the subject of G-Eazy, here he is rapping over a Stereotypes beat of his own. “I can’t hear you, my bass too loud” – sounds fine to us.

LIL YACHTI – BETTER (FEAT. STEFFLON DON)

Still 100% pop, but the feel-good reggae vibes of “Better” serve to showcase the sheer range of The Stereotypes production abilities.

BACKSTREET BOYS – PASSIONATE

Featured on the ‘Boys first number one album in almost 20 years, this is by far the catchiest track on this list. Certified bop.

MARIAH CAREY – STAY LONG LOVE YOU (FEAT. GUNNA)

Another ’90s legend, another signature sound brought bang up to date with some Stereotypes studio magic – and a little help from YSL Records-signee Gunna.
