Watch: Drumcell talks tech

Electronic Beats TV visits techno producer Drumcell in his L.A. studio to find out how his highly technical setup works with MASCHINE at its heart.

Moe Espinosa has different musical personalities, the most prominent ones being Drumcell — focussing on rhythm-driven, percussion-heavy techno — and Hypoxia, wherein he combines ambient and electronica experiments.

Incorporating MASCHINE and REAKTOR, Espinosa is also part of Belief Defect, an outfit that explores the darker outskirts of techno. “I spend a meticulous amount of time sitting in the room and making sure everything is working…if I just hit the space bar and play on my DAW, everything’s got to be in sync”.

With an impressive array of diverse modular systems, synths, samplers, drum machines, and software applications, with MASCHINE being the central interface of his set-up, Espinosa still refers to himself as working in the box. Electronic Beats TV travelled to his L.A. studio to find out more about his studio approach and why it is important to conquer technical difficulties first in order to make room for creativity.
