The art of djing has always been connected to technological possibilities. Be it fundamental things like the introduction of the cross fader that made it possible to actually mix two separate records, or utilising tapes to cut your own edits, loops, and remixes to incorporate those in a DJ set.  Seemingly small enhancements like using turntables with a direct drive mechanism made long mixed transitions of two records easier due to improved irregular motions of the platter known from belt driven turntables.
