Meet the metapop mentors

These pro producers are here to give expert feedback
and help you finish your tracks.

The world may be kind-of upside down right now, but one thing which hasn’t changed is that people still want to make music, get that music heard and improve their production skills. In many ways, music is even more important for everyone at times like this.

That’s why Native Instruments has teamed up with a panel of professional production mentors to give you feedback on your tracks. It’s all happening over on our community for music producers, metapop. During the next month, our metapop mentors will be on hand to give you creative and technical feedback on your latest tracks.

What is metapop?

Metapop is a place where music-makers of all levels can share, connect, and collaborate. Powered by Native Instruments, metapop’s growing online community is all about helping music producers share and learn – the community has uploaded 125,000 tracks so far and we’ve hosted remix competitions with over 200 artists including Flume, Jacques Greene, and TOKiMONSTA.

How can I get feedback?

Simply upload your track to our metapop mentors track clinic, or enter one of the remix competitions happening right now with artists like Battles (Warp Records), TOKiMONSTA and Consequence – and don’t forget to tick the ‘Request Feedback for this track’ option! If one of the mentors can help, they’ll leave you a comment. And don’t forget, if you have some useful feedback for someone else’s track, be sure to let them know. The metapop community is based on producers helping producers – so we all get better together.

OK, who are the mentors?

They’re a diverse group of music producers who have a wide range of experience and knowledge. They also happen to be really friendly and cool. Here’s a quick intro.

Catnapp

Catnapp is the guise of Argentinian artist Amparo Battaglia. She combines R&B, rap, breakbeat, pop, drum and bass and other genres resulting in an intense and nostalgic atmosphere with heavy beats. She’s released 6 EPs, 4 LPs, 2 remix albums and 3 singles, and performed at Berghain, Boiler Room, Fusion, Melt, Secret Garden Party, Latitude Festival, and ARS Electronica.

Minor Science

Minor Science started his journey as a leftfield house explorer, but has since transformed into engineer of hybrid, hi-tech music which doesn’t quite sound like anything else out there. His debut, 2014’s Noble Gas EP for connoisseur label The Trilogy Tapes, was played extensively by DJs like Ben UFO, and was described by The Wire as, “a pleasing clip round the ear.” He’s featured on end of year lists from FACT, Mixmag, CrackMagazine and Resident Advisor, and echoed the producer’s formative years in London’s dubstep and bass scene. 2020 sees the release of his long-awaited debut album Second Language, which binds the various threads of his music into a dynamic but compact and elegant statement.

TRAKGIRL

Shakari “TRAKGIRL” Boles brings a versatile and dynamic dimension to the music industry through a variety of genres.  Recent works include Andra Day, Belly feat. Nav’s “MAINTAIN”, Jhene Aiko’s ” Overstimulated” Luke James’ “Bad News” “Pearls” & “Black Jesus”, Harlem’s “Crystal Caines”, King Chip’s “Queen”, co-produced by DJ Dahi and AX Diamonds, “Mansions on the Moons’ “Where You Are”, and the sultry ballad “Recover” by Anais Aida, which features a number of indie producers including Bjork and FKA Twigs collaborator Arca.

Tony Nwachukwu

Tony Nwachukwu is a renowned producer, lecturer and music consultant based in London. He specialises in connecting the worlds of music production and learning by creating innovative opportunities with music focused creative professionals and industry.

He is the founding Director of CDR, an initiative independently shaping and grooming some of today’s most forward thinking artists, producers and partnerships.
