Community wrap-up: Inspiring new videos from some of our favorite female producers

Wrapping up Women’s History Month with Jeia, Kito, Gnarly, and more.

As Women’s History Month wraps up, this month’s round-up highlights a few exhilarating and innovative female producers from our NI user community. From finger-drumming to chill guitar loops to Vietnamese folk opera gone future pop, check these videos for some creative inspiration on MASCHINE+, KONTAKT or whatever your workflow. Drop ’em a follow if you’re feeling it and don’t forget to tag us in your latest excursions in beatmaking, key caressing, effects processing and general music-making genius.

Jeia

Jeia’s workstation is a thing of beauty: a cave-like command center swaddled in sundry sonic options that are always within her reach. In this video, the Toronto-based beatmaker resumes her Sessions series with a guitar-centric stunner. Watch as her dynamic six-string performance gets the royal treatment – waves of thick 808s, swaths of psychedelic synths, and layers of kaleidoscopic keys, all courtesy of MASCHINE+.

Kito

Maike Kito Lebbing, aka Kito, is an LA-based songwriter, DJ, and record producer. Originally hailing from Australia, this skilled songbird got her start as half of Oz electropop duo Kito & Reija Lee before a series of high-profile remixes for Beyonce and Jay-Z led to collaborations with Big Boi, T.I., and Ludacris. Ever wondered how she builds a beat? Here’s a brief behind the scenes breakdown of her dancefloor banger “Recap,” featuring VanJess and Channel Tres.

Gnarly

British Sri Lankan producer Gnarly is back with a lumbering lo-fi beat whose chillness belies the speed with which she lays it down. In less than a minute, the finger-drumming phenom dials in her drums, splashes them with verbed-out guitar, pitches it down for bass, and finishes things off with a twinkling top line courtesy of a warm and warbling Rhodes. For more genre-bending future beats, be sure to check out Gnarly’s interview right here on the blog.

Blake Heart

Blake Heart is back at it again! Hot on the heels of her LIQUID ENERGY review, the internet’s busiest super-mom returns with a comprehensive crash course on our NEO BOOGIE Expansion. Buckle up for a predictably charming deep dive that proves you don’t have to sacrifice that old-school funk feeling to get a sensual groove with a modern edge.

Seobang

Korean keyboardist Seobang has spent the last decade building her reputation as a gifted composer of Christian music. Watch in awe as she weaves a moving sonic meditation from the illuminated keys of her Komplete Kontrol S88. Just press play and let the calming dulcet tones wash over you. The total lack of narration makes for an instrumental sound bath of deeply relaxing resonance.

Saltyyyy V

Classically-trained producer Saltyyyy V makes her community debut with a 21st century take on modern Vietnamese folk opera, Cải lương. Known for her synth-savvy soundscapes and laid-back beats, this video finds Saltyyyy blending Vietnamese folk with a danceable fusion of hip hop and future pop – thanks in part to NI’s ASTRAL FLUTTER Expansion, which is packed to the gills with future-forward electronica and off-kilter beats.

London Elixir

London Elixir is an Atlanta-based producer, performer, and published author who cut her teeth with beats built from custom instrumentals. Bolstered by an extensive background in piano, production, and engineering, London’s creative philosophy is that “limiting yourself to someone else’s purpose can hold you back from your own destiny.” So in the spirit of radical individuality, try not to bob along to this club-ready reggaeton rager.
