Watch 9th Wonder break down Kendrick Lamar’s “Duckworth” using MASCHINE

The hip hop super producer shows NPR how he crafted the
beat that closes out the triple-platinum DAMN.

In this recent video from NPR, 9th Wonder – producer to Jay-Z, Beyoncé, Erykah Badu, Mary J. Blige, Nas and others – shows us how he crafted the beat behind Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Duckworth’. The final track from 2017 smash DAMN., ‘Duckworth’ juxtaposes three distinctive samples from R&B crooner Ted Taylor, Yugoslavian prog-rockers September, and neo-soul outfit Hiatus Kaiyote – all done with 9th’s trusty MASCHINE.

If you want to know more about 9th Wonder’s trademark approach to sampling, don’t forget to check out our own feature – where he explains how he found his sound, and goes deep on his MASCHINE-based production process.
